There are many version of Winesap, an antique apple with unknown origins. The flavor seems to have influenced the name, with a tart acidic finish similar to many wines and, for this reason, Red Winesap makes a tremendous baking apple and is also great for fresh eating and juice/cider production. This Red Winesap is an improved version, with bright red skin that bleeds into the white flesh when cut or bit into.

Rootstock: G11 dwarf

Size at maturity: 6-10’, needs staking

Pollination: Red Winesap is a triploid variety, meaning it has 3 sets of chromosmes and sterile pollen. It will not pollinate other apples and as a general rule needs two pollinators nearby to fruit well. Flowering group 3 - Enterprise, Florina, Gala, Ginger Gold, Honeycrisp, Grimes Golden
