A hydrosol, also known as hidrolat, essential water or herbal distillates are aromatic waters resulting from plant distillation that are rich in the water soluble compounds and essential oils of plants. Widely used in the cosmetic industry, these herbal waters have soothing, toning and cleansing properties to the skin. Hydrosols are incredibly gentle and , contrary to the concentrated essential oils, have virtually no contra-indications and are suitable for beings of all ages and sensitivities (including babies, elders and pets).
Lavender is a well known calming herb. It has traditionally been used as a nervine relaxant, to soothe the nervous system, reduce stress and anxiety and as an anti-inflammatory to ease skin conditions, redness, sunburns and irritation.
